Subject: Had the vet out today

East Central Iowa
Sorting the bred heifers off of the cow herd to watch them more closely in a different lot brought a real close look at the rest of the herd. First off sorting the heifers became kind of a rodeo for about 20 mins but after that things went well. We took this opportunity while we had the herd caught to get rid of a cow that went gimp recently and a cow that aborted. I also wanted to have the vet come out and look at a bull that looked like he had a lump under his chin and was losing weight fast. Vet came out looked at him and said johnes disease and said to get him on the trailer. Anyone else had this? Also we sorted off another cow that looked fuller than normal. Having a Hydrops cow about 4 years ago(ended badly) thats what instantly came to mind. Doc could not give a 100% answer if it was or not just "watch it closely". What is everyones experience in either case? What to do with the hydrops cow, induce save the cow, wait it out, or wait too long and lose both cow and calf?
