sc ia
My wife and I do about a hundred head a year with natural heat detection. We feed silage during AI season and sort off cows to be bred while they're eating. The cows come into a lot from a pasture to eat silage and all I have to do is swing a gate to change the exit into the feed lane. The cow that is sorted thinks she escaping back out to the pasture but ends up in the feed lane which leads to the AI area. 500 head would be a different story. If I was doing that many I would want them in smaller groups and would need more labor.
Heat detection is easy work, all you need is a lawn chair and a beer.
