I am a big fan of Shorthorn red angus crosses, they produce tons of milk and stay under 1200lbs. Kind of hard to find a Shorthorn bull that isn't designed for the club calf scene though. We also find the R. Angus with the white bellies produce more milk.

One of our best cows only spit out bulls, finally in her last year she had a heifer that is the spitting image of her. Now her daughter is dropping nothing but heifers. We also had a set of good black cows that everyone would breed to a Charolais every time, had to finally get rid of every Char. bull to get some white faces out of them.
