east central ND
a few years ago I put a 50 mm 3x9 leiopold VX11 gold ring on my 270. was about $325 and very good eye relief (I have glasses) and low light performance. last year put 40mm 3x9 nikon monark on my 223 for about $300, about the same eye relief and low light performance, the new 40mm was just as bright as the 5 year old 50mm. Glass has gotten alot better the last few years. You might find a good one cheaper. but I really like the ones I bought. A good scope will give you 20 to 30 min more hunting time around sunset than a really cheap one. When you get down to one or two model go to the store about sunset and get the sales person to go outside with them and then compare. looking though a scope in a well lit store that is 50 yards long is no way to buy something. If they will not take them outside, go to a better store.
