Cambridge, southwestern Nebraska | SC/SW Nebraska. The corn looks as good if not better than last year at this time. We upped the fertilizer and population just a bit over last year with the subsoil moisture supply we had in the spring.
The crop has good color so I don't think N is a problem.
We are just tasseling right now. The weather is very warm to hot with some 100 degree days. We are getting very dry. Not much damage has been done yet and if we can get a good rain this week (2" or more), we could finnish out with as good of a crop as last year if not better. (It was a record last year) IF we don't get any rain in the next 2 weeks we will lose half our yield. It's right on the edge and we are at a critical time. No rain = maybe 60-70 bu. corn. Soaking rain this week = 140 - 150 bu.
So far we have not had 100 degree temps and a strong wind. If we get a couple of days of that without rain we will lose alot in a hurry.
CRITICAL WEEK! |
