Subject: RE: bunks vs. feeding on the ground

IMO, from what I've seen most dairy guys tend to over feed their cows to get the last drop of milk possible. This leads to the cows not cleaning the feed up completely every feeding. Dairy cows also tend to sort the feed and leave what they don't want. So maybe it would be fair to say dairy guys would be cleaning bunks by hand alot more often than guys feeding beef as beef maybe tend to clean the feed up better?

Never had beef but I know there is no way in heck that I'd install a new system using bunks. I've shovelled enough rotten feed in my day to know feeding on the concrete so it can be cleaned with a skidsteer would be the only way to go if building a new system from scratch.
