Giving the pinkeye vac is the most certain way to make sure you have trouble. I have used it probably 3 times in the last 12-15 years, this spring being the most recent, each time resulting in eye trouble. Gave it to a group on one farm that had real problems last year. Sure enough, eye problems. Another bunch less than 1 mile away, no vac, no problems. Another bunch, 20 mi away, fall calvers, on a farm that had some issues last year, no problems. It seems to be hit and miss, year to year, farm to farm, except for when I've used the vac. That seems to assure it.
