Rob, I would definitely put something across it to keep calves out. I have a small culvert that I found calves starting to enter. I put a couple tee posts on either side of the culvert and some barb wire across the opening but not on the ground. You don't want anything which may plug and cause water to backup in a downpour. jmho. Jim at Dawn
