Subject: RE: church manners

Beresford SD

We had a guest speaker one Sunday, his phone rang during his message....answered it right there in front of the microphone.   Quick visit...I'll call you back....explained to the crowd the situation and related it to the message, went on....sometimes God works in mysterious ways.

The Puritanical traditions of long ago are less and less visible.   Behaviour of kids in church relates directly to how things go at home.   Lot of people coming to our church who did not "grow up" going to our church, they don't know what it used to be like.   Some folks visit a time or two then go on....followup inquiry often they say they did not fit in....makes us wonder just what people see.

AWANA on Wednesday nights is full of activity....then bring those kids to Sunday morning service and expect them to sit quietly?   The churches around here  with quiet services have few young parents with children....the future of those churches is bleak.   An interesting quirk of our congregation is the tendency of the high schoolers to sit together in the front of the church, kinda got going by kids who came without their parents and wanted somewhere to sit together, front seats always available.  Generally a well behaved bunch.   Been going on long enough that some of us long timers in the choir notice the progression from young rascals to learning how to behave so their parents will let them go sit with the group up front.
