Near-north Ontario, French River | Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev, then the Ag minister for the Soviet Union toured our farm when I was a child, didnt actaully meet him myself though. He was good friends with Canadian Ag minister at the time Eugene Whalen, and was in the country to visit and tour the local ag sector, including the research station at Harrow.. Its often said that it was during this trip the Gorby first discussed the concept of Glasnost (sp??) , in the back yard garden of Mr. Whalen. Within a few years Gorby would become the Russian leader, and the rest as you know.. is history |
