As I understand it, banks are relying more and more on electronic scanning, and entries without extensive clerical-accuracy controls---------theory is that cheaper to reconcile a few accounts for people, or suffer consequences of a few errors, than the cost ot make everything perfect at the front end........

So.........the person who makes, say, sloppy 6's and 8's--------so that a scanner might not easily detect the difference---------could be out (or in) the money.
