Combine corn and combine beans. My dad and grandpa also interchanged the words 'combining' and 'picking' when it came to corn. I always assumed it went back to the days of actual picking corn with a corn picker.
I'm only 44, but still remember a few farmers who cribbed corn and then 'shelled' it. I think Minneapolis Moline was the only sheller used around here. I actually saw a factory red and white MM sheller probably made toward the end when White bought out Moline. Not too many corn cribs left around here.
