Seaford, Delaware
After building 3 houses here ie what I have learned!

2x6 walls with blown in insulation
2x12 floor joists
3/4 " fir tongue and groove subfloor glued and nailed to prevent squeeks
Pella windows and doors
hot water baseboard heat with oil fired boiler (We only use about 1000 gallons of oil per year)
mudroom with laundry sink
brick foundation (easier to do now than later)
disconnect switch for generator
hearth for woodstove or fireplace
plenty of electrical outlets
prewire for alarm, satellite, stereo, phone, etc. every room.
electrical outlets on each side of house (christmas lights)
water spigots on each side of house (for watering flowers)
Hunter ceiling fans in every room (some of my fans have run constantly for 15 years)
plenty of lights in crawspace
metal ductwork instead of fibre ductboard (mice will eat through the cheap stuff)
Most important of all! Three car garage. One bay for you, one for your wife, and one bay for the lawnmower, jet skis, boiler, hot water tank, etc.

I guess that's all for now. If I think of anything else I will let you know!

Alan
