I'm a dummy, but:

You are limited to the max output on these wireless deals. You can't boost up the power.

Some antennea, if you spend enough, are more efficient.

Some, are designed for a different output pattern of the available power. Some a sphere of coverage, some a ring (much farther coverage, but no height at all), some a cone in one direction.

Some have antennea that can be turned, or oreiented, differently. Or just move the whole box 90 degrees, or on it's side.

All that can make a difference.

Not sure what you started with, but perhaps you have the doughnut shaped output, and it can't go as high up as you are?

I'd try to get the wireless router more centrally located.
