Subject: RE: Don't have enough range in the house-Help!!

Grand Rapids, MI
I am not familiar with range extenders, is this a repeater setup? If so I would think it would work. Or if it is something that ups the xmit power, it may work also, although your puter still has to have enough power to get the signal back.

As far as antennas, just remember that an antenna does not increase the amount of power radiated. I assume then the the "higher output" antennaes that you speak of are directional. I would think this would work also if you can focus the directional antenna in the right direction. Are you trying to cover the whole house for laptop use, or just provide an easier way to network a desktop than running wire through 75 year old walls two floors (not easy I am sure) If your just point to point, a directional antenna should work fine. You might try one of the not too expensive 13dbi patch type antennas and just point it in the direction of the computer. If you are trying to cover a broad area of the house, however, this type of antenna might be too focused.
