No, the pictures are labeled right. using the flash for anything more than a few feet away makes for a dark picture. I suspect when the flash is on, the camera adjusts itself to block out some light from the flash so a close picture will not be over exposed,when your 10 or more ft away there is not enough light for this setting. When you turn the flash off,it sets the camera for a very long exposure,so you get a good picture with very little light,but must hold the camera still during the exposure. When set on the night setting, you get a weaker double flash and only slightly longer than normal exposure,so less chance of a fuzzy picture from moving the camera. This stuff may not work on another brand/model camera if it is set up to work different. You might experiment with yours to see if any of this stuff works on yours.
