ncia | One of our varied tasks as farm kids was packing eggs in the “flats” and pitting them in the cases. I don’t remember how many eggs were in each layer or how many layers were in each side of the case? A guy came twice a week to pick up cases of eggs. I’d say 3-6 cases twice a week. I rarely washed eggs as my older sisters always did that. We used a washer like little papa refers to, but I think we just air dried in the pail.
In the late 60s the corn price seemed stuck in a range from 90cents to 1.10 , so selling 50 cent eggs wasn’t a bad deal. At least that is what I remember from my 10-12 year old self. | |
