If you give non farm kids land, you better do something to protect the farmer kid. Some sort of ironclad lease. I have a friend whose siblings get to tell him what crops to plant because mom left them each 1/3 of the estate. He even has to clear equipment purchases with them. Neither of the siblings know anything about ag and live an airplane ride away.


It’s insanity to me that anyone would want to still own a bunch of assets at the end of their life and allow lawyers to dictate the future of their business. It’s almost like some of this older generation wanted the farm to end with them.



There is no shortage of farms being run into the ground by men decades past normal retirement age that have perfectly capable children in their late 40's and grand kids in their mid 20's. By the time Dad gets done with it there won't be a viable operation left, it's sad really because they can't see what they are doing themselves.
