I agree with this but after talking to several folks who have just recently retired, many of them were able to retire because mom and dad had a significant estate that when they passed, the wealth down when they died. The numbers of what the average American has saved also show this, most of the money is at the top (as you'd expect) but the amount of savings per generation is not where it was in the past. The boomers will chew through their parent's savings and the gen x won't have anything from mom and dad.
