E.Central MN | A graph showing the payment to farmers really doesn't have much to do with what the agent's earn, but it is a good example of how crop insurance is effective as a govt safety net. The graph showing payments to crop insurance companies isn't very informative either, because farmers have opted for different levels and types of coverage as things like enterprise units and the various trend yield options have become available. Not to mention the huge price swings for grains and grain inputs which have driven farmers to look for more tools to cope with the uncertainty. Higher volatility and higher prices = higher premiums going to the insurance companies. | |
