I'm not going to tell you how to handle it, but yes, not staying with the flow of traffic can cause real issues. Unsafe passing is a big one that comes to mind. Even driving the limit can be trouble if everybody else is going faster. The wife and I were color touring on a Sunday one time. I'd been sticking to the back roads for the most part, but for a fair distance, I had to drive a two lane state highway, speed limit 55. I was driving 55 and it wasn't very long at all until I had about a half a mile of traffic backed up behind me. It must have looked like a high speed funeral procession. I turned down a gravel road to let them get by.
