Driftless SW Wisconsin

oakridge - 3/1/2024 11:32 Right now, holstein angus cross calves are selling for $800+ a head at birth locally. Why shouldn't I sell my calves from.my beef herd at birth? 800 might look awfully good when this livestock bubble bursts.

Hopefully we'll get some rain this spring and summer and cow and calf can feed themselves. The livestock bubble may take awhile to "burst" if it does at all. Seems like the reason calves are selling high is that there just aren't that many good beef breed steers around, at least in our area. It may take a while for the cow/calf herds to rebuild. in thee meantime beef demand remains strong.
