32 bales a week for 56 cows? Holy crap. And that would be exactly why I don't feed hay in bale rings anymore. That's just insane.
For perspective I think they were 5x5 1100# bales. So rough figures around 90 pounds per head per day. Probably more wasted with the snow and trying to cover/set out for extra days because he works a full time job and feeding for his Dad that had surgery and stuck in the house.
Main point: 4 times as much hay being used than prior to the snow. Snow/damp/extra cold takes so much more.
I figured we burned twice as much feed the last 2 to 3 weeks. |
