SE MT | Considering adding an older semi to our fleet of gooseneck trailers and older 1 ton Dooley pick ups. Doing the heavy work of hauling hay, and sometimes tractors around is putting some noticeable strain on things. But I don’t know if going to a semi truck is totally the solution. it will do the job better no doubt , but would also mean that I would probably need to buy another $40-$50,000 worth of trailers(pot and flatbed), and it doesn’t necessarily mean I would get rid of any of the gooseneck stuff. So is it really worth it? We truck in an out of our operation about 250-300 cows per year. and truck 1000 calves to market annually. Even with those numbers it doesn’t mean I can haul all of those loads or even half of them. Plus the write offs for the Trucking are useful towards taxes. So am I really just breaking even owning my own truck?
What I just be better off trying to find a single axle toter truck?
