I thickened up one with Teff once. It was ok.

OG and timothy are slow at establishing. Hard to compete with established alfalfa, even when thin.

You could try red clover. But you are only going to get a year out of the clover.

Best is to seed a new alfalfa field somewhere else and rotate your thin stand to an annual like forage oats or sorghum/sudan.
