Subject: RE: What was your first precision ag/variable rate project

Colby, Kansas
Would have been spring of 2005. Running FarmWorks SiteMate on an iPaq. Dual serial port compact flash card stuck in the iPaq, one received NMEA from a Greenstar receiver, the other kicked out the rate information to a Rawson controller. Soldered a lot of our own cabling together.

It was cool when it worked, but could be tremendously frustrating. The compact flash serial cards were flaky and delicate. It was my M.S. thesis project. Worked with a cooperator to seed several hundred acres with a VRT script I had written on a fairly high resolution grid. We had blocks of high rate that we also went in and hand thinned for small plot seeding rate studies at about a dozen locations in the field to evaluate our script.
