Lancaster County, Pa. | The biggest issue here is that they don't pay social security and as i understand it don't pay workmen's comp if it's Amish working for Amish. So, every day crews of roofers, framers, builders of all kinds head south towards Philly and work in high dollar areas. How does any other roofer compete with someone who doesn't have to pay ss or wc? They are working st a HUGE advantage. Then, they come back home and spend that money on real estate. Farm land in Lancaster county bought by Amish is almost always bought with non ag business money and the non ag business is competing on a completely unlevel field. There are getting to be some very wealthy Amish around. I'm going to quit now before my blood pressure goes any higher. | |
