So one thing I have always wondered was why dairy guys don’t have there own trucks ?
A model I could see working well -- 10 100-cow dairies in a nearby area could start their own hauling co-op. They would lease their trailers, and buy a couple of bargain-basement farm-use semi tractors. Each farmer in the hauling co-op would take a turn making the rounds, and the full trailers are parked at a convenient drop off point. An OTR hauling company is contracted to take the full trailers from the drop off point to the plant 100 miles away, and bring back the empties. The hassle of farm pickup is handled by the farmers themselves, who would be more understanding of the conditions involved. |
