Curious how you go about making it more porous?
Porous is an inaccurate way to say it but essentially your soil is too tight the texture doesn’t allow for oxygen or nutrient movement. Sand is the opposite it allows too much to be washed down why irrigated areas have nitrate issues in the water. A little sand and silt can loosen tightly packed clay soils and vice versa. I specifically like to find cow manure that came out of clay lots because my soil is sandy. When you start talking about 20 to 50 tons per acre you can change your soil’s ability to hold organic matter. I have some pasture that hasn’t been broken to my knowledge ever 70+ years it was my Great Grandpa’s the om is the same as everywhere else accept where I have brought in clay. |
