I don't know if you have planted those maples before...but don't! Those seeds are more fertile than chinese elms. My Mom and Dad's yard, driveway, walking paths, lawn is inundated with them nasty things. I spose it's fine if you spray regularly, but it is still absolutely unreal how they can grow anywhere. Maybe we ought to be selling saplings....lol

I wish you the best of luck. There are very few nice trees that will survive iowa. Even SCS recommendations are not good. Take an afternoon drive and look at groves, don,t plant anything that is dying from the bottom up. I Will probably try planting one more time, I will use Amur maple and American cranberry.
Both my dad and have planted many trees, most are long gone or dying.
