I saw some suggest Norway maple and amur maple. I would not. Both are listed as invasive species in several states. We are finding moving into native timber.

Hackberry grow fast and are tough. Swamp white oaks are pretty adaptable and grow at a decent rate. In some areas of Iowa sycamore do well too. Silver maple drop a lot of junk and seedlings but they grow fast and can be long lived.

Highbush cranberry are a good fast growing tall shrub.

For evergreens if your pH in not too high white pine do OK in some areas and Norway spruce to well.

Kelly Tree Farm in Iowa is a good resource and they have affordable seedlings.
