MHO pass on the fast growing trees.

Our grove is a row of dogwood, a row of cedar, and a row each of blue and Black Hills spruce. (My wife wishes we'd passed on the cedars for another row of spruce)

No idea if that mix would work elsewhere, but we were amazed at how even the little foot long at planting dogwoods 3 feet apart caught a massive amount of snow from the north the first year.

Now we don't have the mess of marginal trees dumping branches. At the time, 22? years ago, NRCS provided the plan.
