Getting $7 means advertising several places, dealing with a bunch of crazy horse ladies, eccentric goat dudes, and the occasional college kid who wants to buy two bales for their rabbit. Oh, and the endless arguments over how much timothy, fescue, and orchard grass is in the bales. I won't deliver it but if I did that would be it's own dimension of effort. I've met some great people through the small square bale trade but I can't imagine shifting more than 1500-2000 bales a year 50 at a time (on average).

Growing a commodity I can handle entirely from the seat of a machine and simply take to an elevator and leave with a check is really appealing.
