W Texas | A lot depends on the soil type and how long until you can rake/Ted it. In heavy soils the hay can get moldy underneath long before it is practical to get heavy equipment on it. On sandy soils it’s easy to get on it early enough to save it from the mold.
As far as color is concerned, if it’s dry before the rain, color will really leach out of it. It is still moist when it rains, not so much.
Key management practice is to leave it lay until you have some dry soil to turn the wet hay onto. Once the exposed ground surface is dry, get it turned over as soon as possible. But don’t get a tractor stuck or tear up your meadow. | |
