Subject: Re: road dust

Sheldon, IA
When I lived near Eldora, IA the company i worked for used to use Lignin Sulfate (tree sap). It worked pretty good and lasted 1.5 to 2 months depending on traffic. We had a program for 2 passes during the summer for $0.75 per foot of road. Minimum of 300 ft. The customer would put flags where they wanted us to start and stop. We even did a couple of machine sheds for guys. It was stinky, sticky stuff, but did a good job; just learned to drive slow when it was still wet unless you wanted to scrub your truck. We had an old straight truck with a 2000 gallon tank and a boom with 3 size 300 nozzles on it. With two passes we could cover the whole road with 5 - 6 feet of overlap in the middle of the road. We even had an old Dickey John monitor on it for rate control and would zero the distance out so we could count feet each time. It was actually a pretty good setup. We would put the truck in low gear and go, sometimes we would get out and walk back behind the truck to see how the application was. The old truck had such stiff steering and drove so slow in low that you didn't have to worry about it getting away from us. That truck made us a lot of money during the HWY 20 road construction and when they built the ethanol plant (State paid during the HWY 20 project, and ethanol plant during theirs).
