| Don't know why it would be hard to pull up the rod. I just fixed another of mine over last weekend. I bought them at Farm and Fleet...they must be the cheap kind since it's the second one I had to fix. The rod that attaches to the handle actually screws into the long rod going down the pipe, with a little pin in it that rusts out. I took the top off to fix it (used a nail for a pin) and saw the pipe was rusting bad.
When I installed them, I put a bunch of big rocks in the hole below, then smaller stuff to support the hydrant. No problems with freezing up here in Wisconsin....but then these are 7 or 8 feet long with a good 5 feet in the ground. | |
