I agree Tim. I think Panotiller is getting a line here.

As I've said before, and I'll say again: if I had hay with those numbers right here, right now, I could get at least $170/ton for it. There dairy test market in California has woken up to the fact that there isn't much test hay out there. Last year, big bales of test hay were fetching $140, maybe $145 by the end of the season.

The hay market is so tight here, I have some triple-rinse hay that is a combo of black/brown/green that's getting $105/ton. A big producer here in the valley was selling really, really rough hay (rain+kochia as big as your small finger in there) for $100/ton. And getting that price.

My feedstore orchard/alfalfa mix, which was 90% bloom alfalfa, put up in light bales (ie, < 100 lbs) sold for $190.

Here, forage is priced by quality. Quality sells and this season, quality is selling for premiums we've never, ever seen before.
