I usually leave a 20% tip. I don't remember the last time I left less. Both of our daughters waited tables when they were in college, and it's a tough job. Many would be surprised at the number of patrons that are outright rude to their servers.
I don't consider the tip as part of the price of the meal anymore than I would consider the gas to drive there as part of the meal cost.
I have never tipped at fast food places.
I was flying home into Milwaukee last year and swung into a Cousins subs to get something to eat. They had a tip option right when I ordered. I didn't tip anything, at least 4-5 people came in after I did and they all got their food well before I did, like 10-15 minutes. Ticked me off and haven't been back to one since.
I'll gladly tip generously for great service, but I am not going to tip before the service even happened. |
