Listen to Dave Ramsey, DO NOT follow all of his advice. If you pay somebody for advice, understand before hand what you're paying for. If you're not paying somebody for advice, understand what they're selling before hand. Vangaurd, Fidelity etc. have their place. ETF/ whole market index funds have their place. Berkshire has had it's place, maybe it keeps sailing, maybe it GE's? Remember the golden rule of investing, past performance is not indicative of future results. Dumping money blindly into an index fund has never struck me as a responsible way to invest.

Nothing wrong with putting all your eggs into one basket (farming). The popular idea of exponential growth applies more when it's your own business you're running. You don't get a significantly better return from Fidelity or Berkshire for having ten million invested vs one million, but you could from your own business.
