| I spilled seed several years with a 6 row cyclo 400. Once I put in a new brush, it counted seed very accurately, just it bunched them in the row. Spacing was not consistent. Depth control was OK, but three seed in a clump with an 18" gap doesn't make for three great ears, though that lone seed after the gap might produce a monster, it won't quite make up for two nubbin ears.
The 7000 is virtually the standard for good reliable well spaced planting. Others hope to achieve, and sometimes do. While its a bother to load individual rows, their hatches aren't 8 or 12 feet off the ground with 30" steps to get there carrying sacks of seed either.
I suspect part of the irregularity of the old cyclos comes from unseen wear inside the seed tubes. Gouges from the points of seed corn hitting the same spot a few million times. It might be that a set of new plastic pipes would help even up the distribution of seed. I know I had to swab the tubes every day to remove bug caccoons and nests.
