I plant with 7000 and love it too, with precision meters and keeping speed down will put my stand up against anything-bar none. As long as you get the seed placed right it doesn't know what planted it or what pulled that planter.

But I see two main advantages to newer technology:
1) Center fill being a huge one-those guys that have to cover a lot of acres that saves them a ton of time.
2) Speed-Like I said, my 7000 will singularity and space second to none at 5mph. But if I go faster it shows. I think some of the newer planter with the vacs and the precision plates, or the newer CaseIH planters can still do the job at faster than I can run.
