How many miles ? a worn out timing chain slapping the cover in a 4.3 will mimic lifter noise. The V6 is harder on timing chains than a V8.
A buddy of mine had the Chevy shop fix lifter noise on his 4.3 Astro van, they said bad lifters. Replaced the lifters and still had noise.
a week later when the worn timing chain wore a hole in the cover and started leaking oil on the garage floor, they finally found and fixed the noise. He did not get any money back on the lifter job he did not need.
