Subject: RE: Hydralic lifter noise GM 4.3 v-6

North Central Iowa
I'm having same issues with my Bonneville SSEI also. My intake gaskets are leaking external but also I think there is some leaking internal also (Antifreeze) The mix of a hint of antifreeze in the oil make the bleed valves in the lifters not work right, so when you turn off the engine the oil bleeds from a bad lifter that has valve open in the head, giving you a wide clearance between the push rod and the rocker arm(the clatter noise) when you start it up again.

I been putting some conditioner in my oil and been getting by. The last two oil changes I didn't put any in and now I've got lifter clatter again.

I let it Idle and warm up and it eventually gets the lifters pumped back up and it quits.

Try some conditioner, worth a shot, depends how bad they are. Good Luck

Didn't really believe in the stuff but It does make a difference in my situation. I will still need to fix my intake gaskets and at that time I'll put new lifters in.
