My brother was a GM mechanic for nearly 10 years before going to work for an ethanol plant and he told me that at first thought it was the sun gear casing as it's only made out of tin and doesn't stand up to shifting from reverse to forward when still coasting, but he said if that were the case I should have first and fourth gears and nothing else at all. He says it sounds like a valving and torque converter issue.
