Subject: RE: lowboy trailer question

There are a lot of Challenger trailers in my neighborhood; very good, dependable trailers.

I far prefer a ground bearing trailer, and personally would not want a ngb. Ground bearing is much stronger, does not require shifting the load to the rear to raise it, is much simpler, and lasts longer without getting loose. If it is so soft that the foot will not lift the load to re-attach, it is so soft that the truck is stuck, and you shouldn't have been there in the first place.

Clearing ground obstructions is the same with either type. You lift the load, place blocks between the deck and neck, get off the obstruction, and reset the trailer. There is no neat, "on the fly" height adjustment on a ngb.

Ngb trailers put a tremendous amount of strain on the front of the deck when they lift, and therefore have to be built heavier than gb's.

No contest for me; ground bearers are the only way to go.
