Subject: RE: well pump or bladder tank problem

Central Illinois
Water coming out of the air valve means the bladder is bad. The intent of the bladder is to maintain a constant pressure on the water stored in the tank. This reduces the amount of cycles and wear for the well pump. Without a bladder tank, the pump has to run continuosly to maintain the desired pressure as the pressure drops too much when you open a valve. The larger the bladder tank, the fewer cycles the pump has to make. In this case, replace your bladder tank with the largest one you can put in. I think the average is 20 gl. I installed a 30 gl because I didn't want to move pipes to get a 40 gl in there. This is a case where bigger is better.
