I use bird shot(#12) in a 22 pistol it hasn't hurt the tin in over 20 years of shooting /missing birds. leave a door open and any you miss will fly out, then try to keep doors shut and they eventually re-locate. go in daily for a couple weeks will thin them out fast. with pistol you can't be over 50 feet or you won't kill 'em.
