Too close to Raleigh, NC
I remember an old retired Army Colonel that used to hunt the low country of South Carolina in a cherry Ford Comet. He had air shocks on it to get a little more clearance but he would take that thing just about anywhere you could make out a path. He just chose his route carefully and let all of the leadfooted 4WD trucks show him what to avoid. Always clean as a pin the next time you saw him but I saw him drive through some places that the log skidders avoided.

Guy I work with swears by the old Subaru Brats - so light they don't sink, can't put enough weight in them to break anything, narrow enough to stay out of ruts, and so underpowered they couldn't spin the tires on black ice.

Personally, I like the IH auto-locking hubs on my Scouts. If I want true 4WD I haul the 78 PowerWagon out of the shed - full-time means no hubs to lock. But at 8 mpg on a good day...........
