Roaming the plains | You made me re-read my owners manual. Ford has 2 options for hubs. My last 2 SD's, 99 and 05 have had the same setup.
Here is a brief explanation from owners manual: Electronic Shift on Fly (ESOF) can be shifted by switch on dash to 4X4. Now the hubs have 2 settings. Auto where you don't have to get out, or lock if you want to overide the auto.
Manual System: has Free or Lock position on Hubs and the transfer case lever on the floor. (old school)
Wow you have a choice and if the auto fails you have a back up! Not sure why the dust up over this issue other than people don't read their owners manuals and research vehicles before buying. Brand loyalty reigns supreme again?
