Subject: RE: 1603 Terragators

Have had early '90's 1603, Airmax, 3208 turbo, 10sp setup 7-8 yrs. Bought cheap at large fert equip. auction in Iowa. Replaced exhaust and clutch first year - was out of adjustment, only routine stuff since then. Think tranny had just been replaced when we got it as had it in shop checking things over and it was still primer color and had basically NO oil in it. Scared of that for a while, but filled it up and no leaks or problems since. Think they stuck that in to get it to move for sale and cheap asses didn't even do the clutch (or fill it with oil). Put quite a few acres a year on for us and a few neighbors.

Just got a 1644 liquid with same eng/trans set up as backup for other sprayer. Haven't used much yet. Both start and run well, have decent power for what they're in and use little oil. Exact opposite of 3208 non turbo in Kodiak truck with 700 bu grain trailer. Think it's on fire when starting especially when cold out, which is below about 70 to need either on it. Uses enough oil, don't bother to change it. Oh, did I mention it's gutless? Only good thing to say is it's been that way for 15+ years and always makes it through harvest, and is handy dumping at smaller, tighter spaced bins.

Keep a close eye on the u-joints on driveline that runs under radiator to front pump for obvious reasons - heard bad stories about that. Hadn't heard about rear end weakness, but probably haven't put 2500 hrs on it since we owned it, probably start changing it more often now.

edit: Yes, 35-40 + depending on how tight you want to wrap it. The cab is loud, cause even in the field you're usually winding pretty tight, esp is soft soils. Suppose you could add a muffler, but what fun would that be?
